A glance at what it means to be outside of the gender binary.

What does being non-binary mean? For some people, the question and its answer may be new or a little confusing. It’s okay to not know what it means! That’s where all good conversations start. The journey to understanding starts with an open mind and an open heart.

Hunter Chinn-Raicht is an aerial acrobat, animal shelter volunteer, identifies as non-binary, and can’t open envelopes without completely tearing them apart. They hope for the day when all genders are celebrated, which is what brought them to GenderCool, a positive storytelling campaign turned global movement led by more than a dozen Champions. These young leaders are evolving understanding by showing the world who they are.

Great book for classmates

My kiddo is in 2nd grade in a fairly “purple” area… there are a lot of kids who “get it”, but a lot who don’t. I wanted the classroom to have a resource for understanding what it means to be non-binary. This is a great book that breaks it down for a kid to understand what their classmate says when they ask for they/them pronouns.

Easy to understand

After coming out as non-binary, I decided to get this book for my 7-year-old niece to help her understand what that meant. She enjoyed Hunter's story and understood it well.

Not a kids book

Got this for my kid to read to their siblings and they were so disappointed. They said, I'll have to color in all these pages before the kids will pay attention to any words.

Happy to support.

But this book isn't a kids book.
