An open and honest conversation about death.

This book dives right into the weighty topic that most adults prefer to avoid thinking or talking about: death. It explains the practical aspects and gracefully navigates the nuances of emotion and community that surround something we all experience.

Taryn Schuelke (she/her), CT, CCLS, is the Grief and Bereavement Specialist on the Pediatric Palliative Care Team at Texas Children’s Hospital. She is certified in thanatology—death, dying, and bereavement—and a certified child life specialist. She thinks caring for children at the end of their life is a great honor and immensely sacred work.

Not really more helpful than I came up with on my own

I really hoped this book would help my child understand that death is permanent. I compared death to a flower before buying this book but it only confused him more. He thought since flowers grow back, the person who died would too. I hoped this would explain very clearly and plainly that death is permanent and that the person would never be physically with us anymore. It didn’t really convey that desired message.

A Kids Book About Death

This book is beautiful! It helps explain death without getting complicated, it addresses the feeling that can come with death, and it offers strategies for dealing with those feelings. I love it!

Excellent

I haven’t read it with my kids yet but I previewed it, of course, and found it to be rather wonderful. It helps to frame things in a very concrete way for kids, but also leaves room for families to share their beliefs. I wish I’d had access to such a book when I was a kid but am so thankful to have this for my kids now. ♥️

Good title for a child therapist library

Content is good but definitely too long. Pictures/illustrations would also be useful.
