She is all about community, human connection, and being so authentically herself that others feel safe and empowered to do the same.

We all have chosen family and this book highlights that

We all have people who we have chosen to be our people, oftentimes they’re not biologically related to us. This book helps introduce this concept to kids early on and it’s true - sometimes other people can be better family and support you in ways your bio family cannot.

Got this for my neice just to let her know she's loved no matter what. Good news, her parents love her no matter what, too :) The book was perfect in letting her know that there are diverse meanings for family whether by blood or those special people you find in life who look out for you just the same.

this is not a concept kids are exposed to very often and a lot of queer youth go years without any sort of chosen family. this is a really approachable, inviting book about a super important topic.

Beautiful, educational, and important!

Bought this for my nephew who loves books, loves his bio family, and loves all of his beautiful and diverse queer aunties, uncles, and elders. He’s a lucky kid to have his community of family and chosen family! And he’s such a smart and kind boy who loves to learn. I’m so excited to read this with him!!
