Help kids understand the power and impact of good design.

This is a book about design and exists to unlock the design potential within every kid. Designers work in different ways, but all of them use creativity and compassion to solve problems and make things that in turn make the world a better place. Through the author's personal experience and multi-step process, empower the kid in your life to share their ideas, make, create, and be the best designer they can be.

Jason Mayden (he/him) is a designer, educator, and entrepreneur dedicated to the advancement of diverse creative youth. When he’s not designing, he enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, and their rambunctious French bulldog.

Position piece rather than informational

This book does a great job of one thing, and doesn’t really attempt to do another thing.

It does a great job of explaining why it’s important to consider accessibility when working in design. This position is made very clear and easy for kids to understand.

It doesn’t do a great job of explaining what design is. I wanted to get this for a kid that had enjoyed a relevant museum, to give them a high level idea of what’s involved in being a designer, so they could decide if that was something they really were interested in doing when they grow up. I wanted them to see examples of different tasks designers do, what types of skills they need, where they work, what education they get, some pictures of things produced by designers—- y’know the basics of a kids intro book, like you’d get for a firefighter or engineer. But that material isn’t covered in this book. I think the position about accessibility would have been stronger if it had been embedded in the broader context of what design is. Otherwise it may be difficult for kids to understand or act on this important idea.

Awesome book!

As a design thinking facilitator I enjoyed this title not just for my kid, but also for me. It's an enjoyable reading. A simple and creative way to know and understand what design and applied creativity is.

Kids book about design

My sons favorite books at the moment. I love how it gives a view of empathy in the way you design out of love . He’s read it three times . Jason always has a way of connecting with the youth to inspire them this is just another example
