Help kids to know what to expect when their parents divorce.

When divorce happens, it happens to everyone in the family and kids are left with a lot of questions. This is a tough conversation to have, and some of the answers can hurt. This book is meant to help start an honest discussion with kids about what to expect when parents go their separate ways—written by a parent who has been there.

Ashley Simpo (she/her) is a writer, mother, and wellness advocate, writing about motherhood and civic issues through the lens of race, culture, and politics. She lives in New York City where she co-parents her son, Orion, and leads conversations about mothers and children.

Very helpful book about divorce

This book was great for my 8 year old daughter. I like that it has no pictures as other picture books I found seemed too childish for her age. She read it with me and asked questions as we read. I like that it gives some basic information but still remains positive about all of the changes going on and emphasizes that it’s okay to feel sad and angry but to talk about things together. She related very well to this book and I’m sure we will be reading it again and again as other situations come up.

Extremely well-written

Surprised me by including how a child's parents feel about the situation, and it is easy to understand and very well-written. Enjoyable to read despite the topic. 10/10 would buy again.

Great tool

This book really helped me talk to my kids and helped them understand what to expect. It gave us a chance to discuss our feelings about the divorce and let them know that this is not their fault or under their control.
