Shame doesn’t make us less, just human.

This is a book about shame. Yep, that messy thing we all carry but we all like to hide. But shame is such an important topic to talk about, especially with kids. Because guess what? They feel it all the time. And they just don’t know how to talk about it. Because even grownups don’t know how to talk about it. Shame doesn’t make us anything less than enough. It just makes us human.

Jamie Letourneau (she/her) makes illustrations as an extension of herself to help humans navigate and share ideas and emotions. She can also be found slinging sentimental paper goods under her company: Meander Ink, biking around Portland, Oregon, and unashamedly waving at all of the dogs.

Describes Shame to Children

It was amazing to see my 8 year old resonate with the palpable descriptions of shame and how it feels inside. I love that we can bring words and talk about his inner world using this book as a launching pad.

Thank You for this!

As a coach who works with parents and families to cultivate resilience, I find shame resilience to be one of the trickiest things to teach about because there are so few resources out there. I was so grateful when I found this book, its beautifully and lovingly written. It is simple and effective, and a great teaching tool for parents and kids alike. The course of many lives will be positively changed by this book.

Highly recommend

I read this book to my grandchildren. Shame is such a powerful emotion, yet one that we don't talk about. This book provides a framework for identifying and naming the shame experience and gives supportive advice for managing it. The book provided a great opportunity for discussion about the kids' own thoughts about shame.

Shame

Ny daughter was very receptive to this book and it made her understand her feeling around not having her dad in her life like the children she goes to school withstand it also helped her identify feelings of feeling like she doesn’t belong( we also read this title) sometimes with her peer group at school. We discussed her feelings further on the way to school the next morning and she clued me into some feelings she had been bottling up for awhile. Excellent book!
